We have an abundance of Spring milk on the homestead, with both our Jersey girls in milk.
Their super power is turning grass into one of the most nutrient dense food sources on the planet.
We’re currently hand milking each cow once
a day, and getting 4+ gallons of milk.
And the best part? Not a drop goes to waste!
What our family doesn’t consume goes right to Honey Barbra Q and friends, our Idaho Pasture pigs!
(After the dogs, cats, chickens, geese, and ducks get their fill, of course!)
Because Idaho Pasture Pigs can be raised on pasture for 70%+ of their nutritional needs, we can simply supplement in all our organic food scraps and gallons of raw milk to make sure they have everything they need. And because of this, they thrive! ππΌππΌππΌ
Hannie lost her first tooth.
Two minutes after that,
she lost her second tooth.
And when faced with the realization
that if she could just get one more out
she would dethrone big cuzzie Eli in
the family record for most teeth lost
in a day (he was holding strong
at two), she got to wiggling.
20 minutes after number two came out,
she lost her third tooth. π€£π€£π€£
I didn’t think it humanly possible
to love her anymore,
but her suddenly toothless grin
has got a hold on me. π€
HKC - the Christian family ‘most teeth lost in a day’ record holder! πππ
Just remembering one week ago
when my planters looked like this.
You know, before my puppers decided
they would be the perfect sleep spot
and before the goats feasted on them.
β¨β¨β¨
I didn’t know how it would go.
Bringing a third livestock
guardian dog into the fold.
But she’s found her place.
Here on the homestead,
and among the wildflowers. β¨
She was there, now she’s HERE. β¨
One week with Hazel girl.
She loves napping,
stealing alllll our milk.
And running around
like the floor is lava.
We can’t take her too seriously,
and mostly, we blame that on her toothy smile.
WE LOVE YOU HAZEL! π€π€π€
Marie loves being a mama so much,
she’s taken on Hazel as her own.
Goldie (Hazel’s birth mama) loves this
evening wet nurse arrangement,
and turns Hazel over to Marie the moment
she joins the pasture each night at sunset.
Hazel, on the other hand, is happy
to have a limitless supply of milk,
and is growing like a WEED. ππΌπ€£πͺπΌ
Anne ain’t taking that. β¨
Our cat Finn, who moved here with
us from the Cape, is neutered. βοΈ
But Queenie popped out this kitten,
whom the kids have named “Little Finn”,
and now I have questions…
What do you think?!?
